The best jeans for women to buy now and wear forever, for every budget and style
Shopping for the best jeans for women is one of the trickiest tasks you can undertake. There's no doubt about it. Get it right and your life will be changed, but get it wrong? Well, the consequences are nothing short of disastrous (read: tears in the changing rooms/a strop as you lug 6743288 pairs back to the Post Office to be returned). So why do we continue to put ourselves through it?
It's simple. Jeans are the ultimate wardrobe staple. The stalwart backbone to any capsule wardrobe and about as versatile as clothing comes. Though denim trends come and go (goodbye jeggings/skinny jeans, hello baggier silhouettes), jeans are always there to pair with your blazer, knitwear or white t-shirt and take you from office to brunch to daily walk in one fell swoop.
Seriously: we urge you to rustle up a scenario when jeans won't be an appropriate outfit choice. (Okay, at a wedding may not be a good idea... or on the beach. But you get the picture).
If you're fed-up of ill-fitting denim, you might be wondering where to buy comfy jeans. So, after much deliberation, we've decided to reveal our denim secrets and round-up the 25 best jeans for women from the best jeans brands in the business. As a result of wearing, loving and hating our fair share of pairs of jeans over the years, we've found high-waisted jeans, white jeans, plus size jeans, high street jeans, straight leg jeans, black jeans, boyfriend jeans, and the best tall jeans that'll serve you well, whatever your budget or body type. We've got flare jeans, jeans with a bit of stretch, Topshop styles (all hail the Jamie), ankle-length cuts and retro-inspired silhouettes. Consider your every denim need covered.

In compiling this edit, what have we learnt?
- Finding a woman who is the same jeans size across all of their favourite brands is a rarity. Sizes can vary wildly depending on the store you're shopping in which is, for sure, disheartening. Our advice is to dismiss the numbers on the label and go for what you feel the most comfortable in. Throw sizing out of the window.
- There are so. Many. Styles. There are cult brands like Levis and Lee, plus high street online clothing stores, premium high street brands and luxury designers all cutting their denim in different ways. So you'd be forgiven for feeling overwhelmed.
- It's a good idea to look towards denim trends for styling inspiration. Luckily, in 2022, we're not seeing too much statement detailing, patchwork embroidery or the like. Instead, straight-legs, slightly faded blue denim washes and looser banana-leg jeans reign supreme. Basically, anything that's classic and really great fitting. Perfect.
Which brand of jeans is best?
In our humble opinion, Levi's are hard to be beaten. The Levi's Rib Cage jeans sell out time and time again for very good reason. They retain their shape wash-after-wash (we've tested), they last for years and they have a higher-than-high waistband which stays put no matter how many times you need to bend down to tie your laces. Plus, the straight leg is very on-trend. They're available in a whole plethora of washes on the Levi's website, Amazon and ASOS. (Plus, Levi's also stock bootcut jeans which make your legs look long AF and prove the bootcut didn't die a death circa 2006).
Elsewhere on the high street, Free People's denim offering is killer – particularly if you're after a modern take on classic cuts. Their We The Free collection is home to some really cool pairs (like the Wild Flower jeans), while the Ksubi Brooklyn Jeans have a flattering high waist and classic straight leg. Scandinavian Arket's straight-leg jeans are a bestseller in their collection thanks to their organic cotton crafting, high waist and long leg length, while & Other Stories' Favourite Cut jeans – as loved by Kate Middleton – are also wonderfully high-waisted and kick out at the ankle for a flattering fit.
If you're open to spending upwards of £200, make a beeline for Citizens of Humanity, Frame, Khaite or Agolde - all stocked at Net-A-Porter (we have some Net-a-Porter discount codes so you could save on your denim purchase).

And if you're looking for something specific, we've got granular about the whole denim thing. Check out more of our jeans edits below...
